It was first celebrated on March 1st, 2020, by seagrass conservation organizations and individuals around the world. The idea of World Seagrass Day originated from the Seagrass Project, a non-profit organization that aims to raise awareness about seagrass ecosystems and their importance for marine biodiversity, fisheries, and climate change mitigation.
